Significant switching volumes high for the under 40s

As seen for successive quarters, the 25-40 demographic is by far the most hot-footed with 150,380 switches, making up 43% of total volumes. This demographic accounts for 22% of the UK population2, meaning they’re twice as likely to switch than average.

Young adults (18-24) accounted for 11% of all switches, with 39,206 across the quarter. However, switching grew less frequent in the over 40s, with 56,694 for 41-50s, 55,409 for 51-64s, and 45,667 for 65+.

Regional Rankings - Q4 2025

John Dentry, Product Manager at Pay.UK, owner and operator of the Current Account Switch Service, said: “Competition in the banking market is clearly more active among the younger generation of adults, potentially driven by competing financial pressures felt during this time in life. At a point when you may be getting your first car, starting a family, or even buying a home, the importance of having a good financial partner to help you bank, spend, save and invest could not be understated.

We’re pleased to have reported yet another high performing quarter for switching and proud that switching levels remain strong across the entirety of the UK – a clear outcome of a healthy and vibrant banking market.”
